Up to 90 euros per month for those who have to wait for final invoice gas and electricity

Anyone who does not get a final invoice for electricity or gas due to the IT problems with network manager Fluvius can demand compensation for this. It can go up to 45 euros per month (or 90 euros with a gas and electricity connection). This is stated in the proposal for Decree that the Flemish Parliament approved on Wednesday on the proposal of Kris Verduyckt (Vooruit), Andries Gryffroy (N-VA) and Robrecht Bothuyne (CD&V).

The technical troubles have been dragging on for years. Due to IT problems at Fluvius, thousands of EAN numbers remained, those are the unique numbers for gas and electricity connections. Due to that block, the families involved do not receive any electricity or natural gas invoices. That gives the families a lot of headaches. For example, people do not have a view of their final invoice and they cannot switch to another (and perhaps cheaper) supplier.

The number of families in that situation has fallen in recent months, but according to Vooruit party leader Kris Verducykt, it is still about 2,000 families. With them, the final invoice is « like a sword of Damocles above the head ».

« A compensation for these families is really necessary, » says Verduyckt, who submitted the proposal to compensate for the victims. They can get a compensation of 45 euros per month per month. Affected families do not have to demonstrate guilt, but only have to submit an application.

« People are entitled to a regular correct settlement and therefore cannot be the victim of, for example, an IT problem because of a supplier change or a move. With this compensation we want to put pressure on the network manager, » adds N-VA MP Andries Gryffroy.

CD&V MP Robrecht Bothuyne hopes that the compensation « should never be granted ». « For us it is a means of printing to ensure that Fluvius and the suppliers give every customer the right invoice, nothing more and nothing less, » said Bothuyne.
