Unknown attackers in the Kashmir region murdered at least 24 tourists
The attack happened in a popular resort.
Nai Delhi. At least 24 tourists died on Tuesday in the attack of gunmen in the Indian area Kashmir. According to the former head minister for the Muhba region Muftíová, this « inhuman » attack was the worst in recent years.
No group has yet joined the attack, but the gunmen in the majority of Muslim Indian region have been leading the Uprising since the year 1989. The attack happened in the popular resort of Phalgam approximately 90 kilometers from the largest city of Šrínagar.
« The attack against civilians was greater than any before in recent years. The number of victims is still being detected. This attack on our visitors is abominable, the perpetrators are animals, inhuman and worthy of damnation, » said Omar Omar, head minister, Omar Abdullah.
Different groups demand the independence of the Kashmir area from India or to connect it to neighboring Pakistan, which manages a smaller part of Kashmir. Like India, however, it claims the whole.
India has approximately half a million soldiers in the union territory of Jammia and Kashmir. The number of insurgents in the region has decreased considerably after the government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 took its limited autonomy. Since then, India has been promoting Kashmir as a holiday destination and about 3.5 million tourists visited the area in 2024.
