« United, we walk forward »

Pope Leo XIV, elected Thursday as the 267th leader of the Catholic Church, has already performed to the crowd outside the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican.

He was visibly thrilled to the crowd and before speaking he was contemplating the impressive image of St. Peter’s Square, where tens of thousands of people greeted the new Pope and celebrated his election.

He spoke in Italian what tradition is. The Pope is, in care, also the bishop of Rome.

“Allow me to follow up Pope Francis. May peace be with all. Dear brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the risen Christ, the good shepherd who gave his life through the Catholic Church. Here I leave you a peace greeting, which between your hearts, in your families, in all people in all the earth,” he began by saying that he hopes that he expects to bring “a humble peace, and persever God, who loves everything and everyone unconditionally. ”

The new Pontiff also said that the world keeps in his heart « the weak but courageous voice of Pope Francis. »

“The well-said Pope Rome also gave the blessing in Easter,” he continued, saying that he wants to follow this blessing. « God loves all, evil will not prevail, we are all in the hands of God. »

« United, we walk forward. The world needs to create bridges between God and His love. Thank you, Pope Francis, » he said.

“I am a son of St. Augustine,” said Leo XIV, strongly applauded by the agitated and thrilled crowd. « We must seek together how to be a missionary church that creates bridges and dialogues always ready to receive dialogue and love. »

Passing from Italian to Castilian, the new Pope said, « If they allow me, I also want to give a word and greeting to the Peruvian people and all those who, in particular, faithfully accompanied their bishop in their faith being a family faithful to Christ. »

It should be noted that Prevost served a few years as a bishop in Peru, having a close relationship with Latin America.
