Unacceptable Hamas’s response to ceasefire
The US considered it « completely unacceptable » and criticized him as a step behind Hamas’s response to the US proposal for a ceasefire on the Gaza Strip.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Palestinian Islamic movement announced that it had « submitted its response to the latest proposal by the US envoy » for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
The United States had previously indicated during the week that they had received Israel’s consent for their proposal, with President Donald Trump, who assured that Friday that a ceasefire in Gaza was « very close ».
On Friday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz urged Hamas to accept the US proposal for a ceasefire and the release of kidnapped hostages during the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamic movement on October 7, 2023 or would face « annihilation ».
Since then, in the war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israel has been facing a growing international pressure to end the conflict.
The humanitarian situation is catastrophic in Palestinian territory, where a blockade of more than two months, partially eased last week, has led to major lack of food, medicine and other basic needs.
Hamas explained in his statement that the proposed agreement stipulates that « 10 living prisoners held by resistance will be released, in addition to the return of 18 troops, in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
Of the 251 people kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023, in Israel, 57 are still held in the Gaza Strip, at least 34 of whom have died, according to Israeli authorities. a.jor. ATA
