UN Secretary General Guterres appointed Holguin’s personal representative again – Cyprus Newspaper
The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced that Colombian Maria Angela Holguin was re -appointed as the personal representative of Cyprus. According to a statement made by the UN, Guterres asked Holguin to re-contract with the parties to work on the issue of Cyprus and to advise him about 1.5 months after the informal meeting in the broad format held on 17-18 March in Geneva.
Between January-July 2024, Holguin served as the personal representative of Guterres for a period of 6 months and made contact with the parties. As a result of these contacts, Holguin concluded that there was no common ground between the parties to switch to comprehensive negotiations.
Between 2010-2018, Holguin worked as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia. Holguin’s diplomatic career includes important tasks such as Colombia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the Ambassador of Venezuela and the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Foreign Affairs.
