UN: Israeli Security Council meets and Iran’s retaliation (video)
The UN Security Council cleared its original program to tackle the rapidly evolving crisis, also listening to the head of the United Nations International Nuclear Observer, who warned of serious risks to regional stability and nuclear security.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, Israeli military strikes were targeted nuclear facilities across Iran, including the Natanz enrichment plant.
Media reports report that Josein Salami, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Corps (IRGC), as well as several prominent nuclear scientists, were among those killed.
The blows also caused significant damage, including, according to information, dozens of victims among the civilians. The airspace in the area is largely closed and security forces are in a state of high alarm.
Additional Israeli blows were reported late on Friday night local time, as well as Iran ballistic missile launches allegedly hit by Israeli sections, including Tel Aviv.
Rosemary Dikarlo, UN Deputy Secretary General on political affairs, told ambassadors that the impact of the attacks have already had an impact.
« I reassess the Secretary -General’s condemnation of any military escalation in the Middle East, » she said, calling on both Israel and Iran to show the maximum self -restraint and « to avoid the descent into deeper and wider. »
He also noted that the military escalation came as « some important diplomatic developments » were unfolded, including the scheduled resumption of US-Iran talks in Oman at the weekend. Recent reports indicate that Iran will no longer participate.
Ms Dikarlo called the places to stay on the diplomatic course. « A peaceful solution through negotiations remains the best means to ensure the peaceful character of the Iranian nuclear program, » she said. « We must at all costs avoid an increasing resuscitation that would have huge global consequences. »
The head of the nuclear observatory calls for the protection of nuclear facilities
In informing the Council, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Organization – IAEA, said that his organization is in constant contact with the Iranian Nuclear Installations to evaluate the condition of the affected facilities and to determine the wider security and the wider security.
He stressed that nuclear facilities should never be a target – under any circumstances. « Such attacks have a serious impact on nuclear safety, nuclear security and safeguards, as well as regional and international peace and security, » Mr Grossi said.
He is ready to travel to the area as soon as possible, he added to evaluate the situation and support efforts to safety, protection and non -dissemination of nuclear weapons in Iran.
Calls the parties involved in dialogue The IAEA leader
« It is clear that the only viable road forward for Iran, Israel, the whole region and the international community is the one based on dialogue and diplomacy to ensure peace, stability and cooperation. »
Mr Grossi ended up offering IAEA as a neutral platform where « events prevail over rhetoric » and where technical commitment replaces escalation.
« I reassess my personal readiness and the readiness of the organization to facilitate dialogue and support the efforts that promote transparency, security and peaceful resolution of nuclear issues in Iran. »
