UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 must not be distorted or contested
Su Lei, Acting Ambassador of the PR China
In May, the General Committee of the 78th World Health Assembly Session (Wha) decided to reject the so-called proposal for « Taiwan’s invitation to participate in the World Health Organization (WHO) as an observer » submitted by certain countries. This is the ninth year in a row that the WHO rejects the so -called proposal on Taiwan, which fully shows that adherence to the « one China » principle is the will of the people and is a general trend. The World Health Organization is a specialized United Nations agency where only sovereign states can join. As part of China, Taiwan has no right to become a WHO member. This is a fundamental principle confirmed by UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and Resolution 25.1 of World Health Assembly.
In 1971, the 26th General Assembly of the United Nations, by a convincing majority, adopted the Resolution 2758, which decided to restore all the rights of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations, recognizing representatives of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate representatives of the United Nations and the United Nations, legal and procedural perspective. This is a political document that embodies the « one China » principle. The « one China » principle is the main norm of international relations and a universal consensus of the international community. It is also a fundamental premise and political basis for China to establish and develop relations with 183 countries, including with Northern Macedonia.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War victory over Japanese aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s liberation. Taiwan’s return to China is an important part of World War II victory and post -war international order. The Cairo Declaration, Potal Proclamation and a series of documents with international legal force have confirmed China’s sovereignty over Taiwan, and their historical and legal facts are undoubted. Currently, the DPP authorities stubbornly adhere to the separatist position for « Taiwan’s independence », joining external forces constantly provocating « independence » and deliberately distorting and disputing Resolution 2758 at the UN General Assembly. This is not only a challenge to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also to challenge international justice and universal consensus, as well as to challenge the global order after World War II. No matter what the DPP authorities say or do, it does not change the fact that the two sides of the strait belong to the same China, and Taiwan is its part, nor can it change the basic model of the international community to adhere to the « one China » principle, nor can it stop the historical trend.
