UKU Engineering students won international success at ICAMES’25 – Cyprus Newspaper
The International University of Cyprus (CIK) achieved a significant success in the 29th International Cultural and Academic Engineering Students Meeting (ICAMES’25) held in Istanbul between 5-11 May 2025 in Istanbul. The event was held with the theme of “Health Center Infrastructure and Biotechnology Innovations” and 20 projects from 12 different universities competed.
CLU took part in the event with two projects aimed at providing engineering solutions to health problems: Smartmed mobile application aimed at improveing hospital appointment processes, and the self -sterilizing nanotanecikli with antimicrobial nanotanecik produced by an environmentally friendly method. As a result of the evaluations made by the jury consisting of faculty members of Boğaziçi University Faculty of Engineering, CIK’s paint project became one of the 8 projects that were entitled to the oral presentation stage.
Students of CIUs presented their projects with the teams of universities such as Simon Fraser University (Canada), Genoa University (Italy), Kalabriya University (Italy), Babeș-Boliai University (Romania), Austria University (Austria), Georgia Technical University (Serbia). In this process, they had the opportunity to develop both technical and presentation skills by receiving constructive feedback from the jury members. The event emphasized the rising role of artificial intelligence in health technologies and the importance of cost analysis of life cycle in engineering projects.
Among the participants, UKU students stated that ICAMES’25 contributed to their academic development and offers a cultural enriching experience. The wound Kalam described the activity as a “transformative experience in my personal development, and Eliane Kavira said that he had gained the chance to establish a scientific and cultural bond with participants from different countries”. Judy Kalam described ICames as ün one of the turning points of my academic journey ”.
CLU Faculty of Engineering Asst. Assoc. Dr. Shihab İbrahim stated that the event offers students the opportunity to communicate, critical thinking and discovering international engineering practice.
