Ukraine: These are the fiery robots that enter the war

Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in the war in Ukraine, with the fiery robot Krampus being one of new weapons of these technology that debuted the battlefields.

Krampus, an unmanned UGV vehicle designed by Ukraine, has come to complete another 80 more domestic drone projects that have been licensed, have been made available to the Kiev Armed Forces and supported by the West (19/5).

The Ukrainian government added that this remote-controlled vehicle is equipped with RPV-16 missiles, which were also designed by Ukraine and which are thermaric missiles with rockets-originally designed to make the infantry switch through portable launchers.

Its potential

Thermobal missiles disperse a fuel cloud in the air, which then ignites and creates a strong explosion.

Made to « perform attack and defense missions » against infantry and slight shielding, Krampus is an UGV that traces, operates with two silent engines and can fit the back of a truck, the ministry said.

The government added that these robots are resistant to involvement and are designed to withstand cold, heat, snow and rain. In addition, it moves effectively off the road: in dense forest, sand, swamps and soils with steep slopes.

« The capacity of the platform’s battery allows several hours of continuous traffic, » the ministry said in a statement. « Thanks to this, it can remain in place for long periods of time. »

The ministry did not clarify the robot’s operational range or capacity of ammunition.

Pictures of Krampus, however, show a platform that has a camcorder the ability to carry four RPV-16 launchers. These launchers are usually disposable and so Krampus will be able to hit targets with four shots – it will be able to hit again after refueling.

Authorization by the Ministry of Defense is important for the scope of using a drone, as Ukrainian weapons construction and innovation are scattered throughout the country. As the war rages, various companies and military units work on their own battlefield technology at the same time and often share them with each other.

Official approval means that Ukrainian forces can use their budgets to buy UGV Krampus.

Their heavier frames offer more growth options than a typical flying drone, such as transporting larger explosive beneficial loads for attack missions, wounded discharge as a lasting solution or clearing of hooks.

« These drones allow us to replace infantry soldiers on the battlefield, » said Oleksandr Chernyavskiy, a general in the Drone Group of the 241st Territorial Defense Brigade who helps raise money for UGVs such as Krampus.

His own brigade has created a similar UGV, which also traces, has machine guns and has a 20km operational range. Such offensive UGVs often move along with aerial drones that can help them detect mines, traps and targets, Chernyavs.

« It seemed to be quite effective in some kind of businesses, such as against well -equipped positions and traps, » Chernyavskiy said of the UGVs of his brigade, most of them weapons. « We usually use them remotely, with our infantry being far from them. »

Ukraine has set the goal of throwing a total of 15,000 UGVs on the battlefield by the end of the year.
