However, providing another 40,000 soldiers may be a problem for the German army (Bundeswehr), as it did not meet its 2018 target to have 203,000 soldiers in an active service-it currently lacks approximately 20,000 soldiers.

At the June Summit in Hague, NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte wants to convince the heads of state and governments to more than double the current goal of defense spending from two percent of GDP to five percent: 3.5 percent should only be available for the army, 1.5 percent for spending in related areas.

NATO’s new goals have not yet been expected to withdraw US soldiers from Europe, which has so far been largely relied on them.
