US officials said, under the pretext of maintaining anonymity, that Chinese soldiers probably only have limited training and their presence has no noticeable impact on Russian military operations, writes Reuters.
Former Western Secret Services representative, who is familiar with this issue, specified for Reuters that approximately 200 Chinese mercenaries are fighting alongside Russia. In his words, these persons have no ties to the Chinese government.
However, the former representative recalled that some Chinese military officers with the consent of Beijing visited the areas of the Russian front line to gain knowledge and observe the fight tactics.
Moscow and Beijing have deepened their political, military and economic cooperation from the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. China presents itself as a neutral country in this conflict and claims that it does not send weapons to either party – unlike the US and Western countries. Nevertheless, NATO Member States call it a « decisive contributor » to the invasion of Moscow, which she has never condemned.
