Ukraine raises Putin’s armistice proposal
Ukraine responded to the three -day armistice declared Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin with a counter -offering and long -term fire.
« If Russia really wants peace, it must stop the fire immediately, » the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sîbiga wrote on the platform X.
Ukraine is ready to support a cessation of permanent, stable and comprehensive fire, but the initial stage should last at least 30 days and not just cover the period of the Moscow military parade, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy added.
Previously, the Russian president announced a three -day armistice in the Ukrainian conflict, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory against Nazi Germany in World War II. The cessation of fire will enter into force at midnight on Wednesday, May 7 (Thursday, May 8, 00:00) and will take 72 hours, until midnight on Saturday, a Kremlin statement.
Announcements regarding the cessation of fire seem to be meant to demonstrate the desire of the belligerent parties to engage in the dialogue-especially to the US President Donald Trump, who has assumed a mediator to conclude the Ukraine war, which has already lasts over three years.
The Trump administration has expressed its dissatisfaction with the Russian offer. The spokeswoman for the White House, Karoline Leavitt, said the US president has clearly stated that he wants to see a cessation of permanent fire.
