Ukraine. Official Russian, about the stage of Russian-American discussions
Russia cannot accept US proposals to end the Ukraine war in their current form, as they do not address Moscow issues to be the deep causes of this conflict, said Russian Foreign Deputy Minister Sergei Riabkov, suggesting that the discussions between Moscow and Washington on this topic stagnate, records the agencies on Tuesday.
According to Russian official, Moscow and Washington have not been able to solve the differences that Russian President Vladimir Putin has noticed two weeks ago, when he said that US proposals require reformulations.
« We take the models and solutions proposed by the Americans very seriously, but we cannot accept them all in their current form, » Riabkov said, in an interview published on Tuesday by the magazine « International Affairs », a publication associated with the Russian Foreign Ministry.
« As we can see, our main requests are not found (in the US proposals), namely the solving of problems related to the deep causes of this conflict. They are completely missing, and this must be addressed, » explained the Russian diplomat.
The Kremlin has transmitted several times that a negotiated resolution of the conflict in Ukraine must take into account the elimination of its « deep causes » and « Russia’s legitimate security interests », a formula by which Russia requires, among others, to recognize the territories it occupies in Ukraine, excluding this country to the country.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Monday that in the Russian-American dialogue on the end of the Ukraine war there is nothing concrete yet.
« We are working on implementing ideas related to the settlement (conflict) in Ukraine. This activity is ongoing. There are still no concrete details on which we can or need to inform, » said Peskov.
He insisted that negotiations with Washington focus primarily on normalizing relations between Russia and the US, « who have undergone enormous damage during the previous administration » of President Joe Biden.
US President Donald Trump reacted on the weekend with irritation after Putin proposed the replacement of Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski last week with a UN led one, organizing elections in Ukraine and then conducting peace with the new Ukrainian power.
In an interview with the NBC station on Sunday, Trump said he was angry when Putin criticized Zelenski’s legitimacy. Also, the US president threatened with new secondary customs duties, 25% to 50%, to be claimed by the US including countries buying Russian oil, if Russia will not be involved to agree to conclude the Ukraine war.
