« Ukraine must give up territories »

Ukraine should give up Russia, and its people should ask President Volodimir Zelenski to retreat, said Victoria Spartz, a Republican member of the US Congress born in Ukraine, according to The Kyiv Independent, citing the British media.

Victoria Spartz said that Ukraine is not in a position to request the return of all the territories occupied at the present time by Russia – the Crimea Peninsula (since 2014), the regions Donetk and Lugansk (East), Herson and Zaporojie, controlled by Moscow. « If (Ukraine) would win the war, the situation would be very different, » says the Republican elected from the US representatives, in an interview on Monday in The Telegraph.

Victoria Spartz was born in the Cernihiv region and moved to the US in 2000. Chosen in Congress in 2021 and 2024, she initially supported US help for Ukraine and often spoke about the war triggered by Russia.

However, it has sewly criticized the Ukrainian government, especially President Volodimir Zelenski and the head of his administration, Andrii Iermak.

Spartz, who was a critic of both the Biden and Ukrainian government, supported the appeal to US President Donald Trump to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

« There are no easy solutions, » she said, blaming former President Joe Biden for what she considers to be a failed support.

« President Trump has inherited (the problem), so now he has to do it, » says the republican chosen.

Referring to the verbal dispute between Trump and Zelenski in the Oval Bureau, she accused the Ukrainian president of ‘insulting the US president’ and of having made a ‘service to the Ukrainian people’.

Spartz went on, suggesting that the Ukrainians should not vote on Zelenski in the next elections. « They will have elections, and if I choose it, they will lose the rest of the country, » she says.

The Wall Street Journal wrote a year ago that Spaartz will not support the new help of Ukraine worth $ 60 billion, criticizing a lack of clear strategy ‘. She said then that better monitoring of American aid granted to Ukraine is needed.

Some time ago, Spartz had stated that he « largely gave up focusing on Ukraine. » In October 2023, Spartz joined the calls of his republican colleague Jim Jordan about greater responsibility in the financing of Ukraine and supported the idea that the help for Ukraine would be granted in the form of a loan, as the Republicans from the Chamber of Representatives proposed.

In June 2024, Politico reported that Republicana Spartz was the subject of a preliminary investigation from the Ethics Commission of the Chamber of Representatives, following the accusations of violence against the subordinate staff and creating a hostile working environment.

In an interview with Newsmax on March 24, Spartz described on Trump as ‘a good negotiator’, compared to Zelenski.

« To win wars, you must have leaders to know how to win, not try not to lose and become oligarchs themselves, » she said. Spartz also stated that Zelenski has taken control over the entire Ukrainian media, persecuted churches, businessmen and volunteers’, notes The Kyiv Independent.
