Ukraine is trying to stop the advancement of Russian troops

The Ukrainian army tries to stop the advancement of Russian troops in the North-East region of Sumî, where the Russian army occupied a portion of territory and intensified there to create a security area on the border with Ukraine, the EFE agency reports on Friday.

Russia’s active attempts to advance in the Sumî region of March and intensified with the success of the Russian troops to almost completely expel the Ukrainian units in the Russian Kursk region, where the Ukrainian army had managed to occupy about 1,300 square kilometers in a surprise incursion in August last year.

In order to prevent new Ukrainian incursions of this kind on Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced last week a plan to create a ‘security area’ along the border between the two countries.

Ukrainian military analysts believe that the Russian offensive in Sum follows both the increase in the pressure on the Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski to give in to the demands of Moscow in the perspective of the peace negotiations, as well as to prevent a consolidation of the Ukrainian defense in the Estal Region, however of Russia.

In the Sumî region, the Russian units have launched with an unique tactic offensive operations throughout a 50-kilometer section of the border that has a total length of about 560 kilometers. Small Russian assault groups, which use small vehicles and motorcycles, are infiltrated into the Ukrainian villages, from where the majority of the population has already been evacuated, and hide from the Ukrainian drones in abandoned buildings, where they regroup and prepare the continuation of the incursions.
