Ukraine claims: We haven’t happened to exchange war prisoners
Kremlin’s official Vladimir Medinski announced earlier on Saturday that Ukraine unexpectedly, until further exchanging war prisoners and the bodies of killed soldiers. Russia and Ukraine held the second round of peace negotiations in Istanbul on Monday, where they arranged a new exchange of war prisoners, with the focus on the youngest and the most seriously injured, and the return of the body of 12,000 killed.
Medinski said that Russia began to surrender more than six thousand bodies of the killed and the exchange of injured, seriously ill and prisoners under the age of 25. He added that 1212 bodies of the Ukrainians killed in chilled containers were at the exchange location, but that there were no Ukrainians there.
The Ukrainian Agency in charge of war prisoners has announced that Russian statements « do not correspond to reality or earlier arrangements for exchanges of prisoners or body reputration ».
The agency confirmed that an agreement was indeed reached on the repatriation of the bodies of the killed, but that no date was set for this and that Russia turned to « unilateral action » that was not part of the agreement.
Medinski has previously announced that Russia has handed over to Ukraine with a list of 640 prisoners of war from the ranks of « wounded, seriously ill and young » to start an exchange. Kiev then announced that he had also handed over the list, but that the Russian list was contrary to the previously agreed conditions.
Ukraine announced that she respects the agreement on the planned transfer of the body of about six thousand soldiers and that this could happen in the coming days, the DPA of the Coordinator of Kiev reports.
