This day is not just marking one figure or patronone. He is a reminder of a long and valuable history, to generations of professors, students and scientists who have paved the way to knowledge, progress and social development in our country and beyond. Of only a few faculties in 1949, today UKIM has 23 faculties, five scientific institutes, numerous centers and over 200,000 graduates, thousands of masters and doctors of science. To work this high institution to be included in the list of the best, it was highlighted today to mark the 76th anniversary of its existence and the patron holiday of the University « Ss. Cyril and Methodius » in Skopje.

Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska emphasized that the successes of students internationally are confirmation that UKIM is building young people who are ready for the challenges of the new age. As he said, the goal is for the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius to continue to strengthen and be included in the list of the 1,000 best universities.

-We are good at all your achievements, and your successes internationally are confirmation that UKIM is building young people who are ready for the challenges of the new age. The purpose of all of us is to continue to strengthen and count on the list of thousands of the world’s best universities. We owe this to the patrons of the University and the founders of Slavic literacy, as well as to all their students Clement and Naum who founded the Ohrid Literary School, the first Slavic and the oldest European university in the 9th century- Janevska said in their address.

As the minister, the Government and the Ministry of Education and Science pointed out, have a high priority to improve the quality of higher education. Therefore, noted last year they formed a national coordinating body for higher education reform and research activity, which is already working on the preparation of a new Law on Higher Education.

She informed that this year the budget for education is the largest ever, stressing that Denar 680 million has been allocated for science, which is almost twice as much as last year’s 380 million denars and three calls have already been published for the allocation of funds for the realization of innovative scientific research projects.

UKIM Rector Biljana Angelova, in her address on the occasion of the patron’s holiday, emphasized that over these 76 years, UKIM has grown to the largest, oldest and most influential higher education and scientific institution in the country.

Speaking of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Angelova noted that their mission is the foundation of European cultural history, but also a direct inspiration for the UKIM mission.

She highlighted UKIM’s innovations that, he said, are in line with their vision of an open, inclusive, flexible and European oriented university, which does not forget its identity, but boldly looking at the future.

-We have strengthened the quality provision system, with the introduction of standardized procedures and tools for teaching and research evaluation, we have opened an open science center that provides our researchers better access to data, literature and international collaboration, much more intensively on the European Horiznot Europe program, and we have started projecting with project. « From students’ enrollment, through administrative management, to the online learning platform and partnership with the Across EU Alliance we have started several horizons and other projects that provide us with internationalization of teaching and student mobility, » Angelova said.

She emphasized that in the coming period they will be committed to increasing the practical component, support for young researchers, curricula revision and environmental and social sustainability.

The ceremony was awarded the best students for UKIM’s 2023/2024 school year, with UKIM Vice -Rector Sonja Topuzovska telling them that the academic knowledge they gained at UKIM forms the basis of all their key competencies, but, as she said, this is not enough.

-The balance between academic knowledge, practical know-how and soft skills become the basis for your targeted competencies and your career progress. The University’s mission is to provide not only top education and exceptional knowledge but also the highest competencies and to prepare their students for their future career path, for their entry into the workplaces where they will need to apply their knowledge they gain at the faculties – Topuzovska said in their address.

The President of the University Student Assembly, Aleksandar Nikolovski, told the students who deserved their success to their success with the image of Saints Cyril and Methodius, that their main focus should be on gratitude and responsibility.

-While we rush to the next success, we often forget to celebrate the one we have achieved. Be grateful to yourself, your work, to those beside you – family, friends, professors. But gratitude is not enough in itself. So take responsibility. Responsibility to share knowledge, help where you can, be light for the next generations. The community is being built with small steps, but each starts with the individual- Nikolovski said.

At the ceremony, the rector Angelova also presented the « July 26 » awards to the students Nikola Ristevski from the Faculty of Philosophy, Ana Maria Naumovska from the Faculty of Law « Justinian I », Anja Danilovska and Sofia Stanceska from the Faculty of Economics, Nina Naseska, Gjorgjieva from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts.

Namely, UKIM marks the jubilee and patronage with a three-day suitable program, rich in artistic performances, and will also be awarded the title of honorary professor (professorhonoris causa) by Professor Dr. Peter Mark from Rourish University in Bochum, Germany.

Prior to the start of the event, senior delegations from the state officials and a delegation of UKIM, led by rector Angelova, laid flowers in front of the monument of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
