U-boat with almost seven tons of cocaine in front of Azores

In front of the Azores island group in the Atlantic, Portuguese and Spanish police units confiscated a kind of submarine with almost seven tons of cocaine. The five crew members of the so -called half -diver – a ship that is largely under water and is therefore hardly visible – were arrested, as the Portuguese police unit Polícia Judiciária announced in a press release and at a press conference. The 6.5 tons of cocaine were therefore intended for the European market.

According to the information, the information was given in the past few days of almost 500 nautical miles south of the archipelago belonging to Portugal. There is a cross -border drug organization behind the transport, it continued. In Portuguese media, it was speculated that it could be Latin America’s largest drug gang, the PCC – Primeiro Comando da Capital – based in São Paulo in Brazil.

Half -divers increasingly in use for drug smuggling

According to the Spanish Guardia Civil, half -divers are increasingly used for drug transport between the two sides of the Atlantic, as the Spanish news agency Europa Press reports. They are difficult to discover and could transport large amounts of cocaine. In addition, they are easy to retract, and occupation members could make drugs disappear if they are discovered. The half -diver was very likely in Brazil.
