Two weekends of nuisance due to working in Kennedytunnel

The Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV) warns against potentially serious traffic nuisance during two weekends in June and July in the Kennedytunnel on the Antwerp Ring. Due to innovation works in the tunnel in the direction of Ghent, there will be a limited passage and that may entail delay and traffic jams.

AWV will renew the concrete slabs and joint filling of the road surface from Friday evening 20 to Monday morning 23 June and from Friday evening 4 to Monday morning 7 July. That is necessary to guarantee road safety and to increase driving comfort, it sounds.
During the first weekend, traffic to Ghent will have to go through the tunnel over one lane and there is no nuisance towards the Netherlands. During the second weekend, the tunnel poker in the direction of Ghent has to close completely and the traffic in both directions has to be done through the other tube, each over one lane.
Although there is always a passage in the tunnel, AWV and the Flemish traffic center warn with the expected traffic nuisance, especially during the day. After all, in the Kennedytunnel it is also particularly busy on Saturdays and Sundays, with an average of 65,689 vehicles in the case of Ghent and 67,125 vehicles towards the Netherlands per weekend day.
Those who can avoid the area that weekends are advised to do. Traffic from the east to the west, for example, is advised to drive via Brussels.
