Ukraine returned from the temporarily occupied territories of two teenagers. The 18-year-old guy threatened to mobilize to the ranks of their army, and a 17-year-old girl was taken to the Russian Federation.
About it reported In Bring Kids Back UA initiative.
The Russians occupied the hometown of 17-year-old Oksana in 2014. Then she and her mother were forcibly taken to Russia. There, the girl was constantly humiliated because of Ukrainian origin: she was not only harassed at school, but also repeatedly beaten.
”Despite its daily pressure and violence, Oksana has not lost her desire to return to Ukraine. She tried several times to get home on her own, and during her last attempt she spent four days without food on the road.
After that, Oksana sought help from the Ukrainian network team for the rights of the child, which helped to develop a safe route and issue all the necessary documents« , – the message reads.
Today the girl is already in Ukraine and plans to join a higher education institution.
Another teenager that was returned to Ukraine is 18-year-old Andrew.
”The constant moral pressure was accompanied by a real threat of mobilization to the army of the Russian Federation. The Russian military monitored the guy’s house and pursued it.
The fact that one day can be forced to fight against his own homeland became the greatest fear and motivation to leave« , – the human rights activists explain.
Andrew tried to escape on his own, but unsuccessfully. His sister had previously managed to get out of the occupation, and it was she who advised her brother to contact the Ukrainian network for the rights of the child.
”This time the attempt was successful: the team of our partners made a safe route and helped the guy cross the border. Now Andrew is safe in the territory controlled by Ukraine, next to his sister« , – the message reads.
According to estimates of human rights defenders, there are now about 1.5 million Ukrainian children in the occupied territories.
