Two Russian bridges collapsed near Ukrainian border, seven dead

Two bridges collapsed in Russia in the last night. At least seven people were killed. Dozens of people were also injured. Last night a viaduct in Brjansk, after which a train derailed because falling debris landed on the rails. Part of the viaduct then ended up on the train.

The direct cause is not clear. Russian state media report that The viaduct as a result of an explosion has collapsed. There were 379 passengers on the train, of whom at least 47 were injured. Dozens of care providers have now been sent to the area.

The railway company reports that there is sabotage. The Russians accuse Ukraine. Brjansk is located in the border region between Ukraine and Russia and is regularly the target of drone attacks and shelling of Ukraine. KYIV has not yet responded to the Russian allegations.

Also in the Koersk region, also near Ukraine, a bridge then drove a freight train over it. As far as we know, one of the drivers was injured. The Russian authorities have opened an investigation into both incidents; of which it is unclear whether they are related to each other.
