For the village derby between SV Wildert and Excelsior Essen, both of which play at the top of fourth provincial C and have maintained a strong rivalry for several years, a fireworks arrow between the players of Excelsior ended up. Two football players were taken to the hospital. Both with hearing damage, one with burns in the chest region. The entire team then refused to kick off the game.
