The baby tragedy took place in the apartment at ul. Piłsudski in Starogard Gdański. Not only the two -month -old Maja was experiencing hell there, but also her siblings. The children were 2 and 4 years old.

On January 20, 2022, an ambulance was called home. The girl no longer gave any signs of life. The description of the injury was dramatic.
The autopsy shows that the cause of the child’s death was spilled, exudate encephalitis coexisting with edema of the brain, and the direct cause of death was the paralysis of the centers important for life in the trunk of the brain, circulatory and breathing. Numerous traumatic changes were also found in the form of multiple, multiple body damage. The nature of injuries indicated that violence against the girl took place long before she got to the hospital
– said prosecutor Grażyna Wawryniuk from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk.

Investigators had no doubt that their parents and her siblings were prepared by their parents: Karolina P. (25 years old) and Dominik P. (26 years old). They both heard the charge of murder. Both parents were also accused of committing a crime of physical and mental abuse with particular cruelty.
Their trial began on September 20, 2023 before the Gdańsk District Court. On September 18 last year, the court issued a judgment in this case. The judges’ decision was shocking.

Majeczka’s parents were not convicted of murder, as the prosecutor’s office wanted. Apparently there was not enough evidence for this. Investigators appealed against this judgment.
The Court of Appeal in Gdańsk has just issued a final decision. Karolina P. sentenced to 20 years in prison, and her partner Dominik P. to 19 years in prison for murder and bullying with particular cruelty over Maja and her two siblings. For 10 years, both of them cannot approach less than 100 meters to two living children who are in foster families.

The court emphasized that the fractures of the upper and lower extremities in Mai had to be formed using high force. In the justification of the judgment, judge Joanna Mielec said that the accused were isolated so that no one would see their numerous injuries. She recalled, among others SMS in which my mother wrote: I forgot that Zuzanna has a conquered eye, so she can’t go to the yard. The children were insulated enough that they couldn’t even speak at the time. It was also established that the children were malnourished. A team of abused child was found at Maja’s siblings.
The judge emphasized that the defendants acted with particular cruelty. The court took into account that both main accused came from dysfunctional houses, but they themselves created a house in which they behaved worse than they were treated in their childhood. In the justification, he stated that the penalties are severe, but he is to make society aware that such harm to children must meet with a reaction.
The sister of the accused and grandmother of two -month -old Maja, who were acquitted at first instance, will also be responsible for not helping. The Court of Appeal decided to repeal their acquittal and referred their case for re -examination.
