Two Latvian books receive gold prizes in the prestigious European Design Awards / Day

This is the first time in the history of the competition that the works of one designer have received the highest prizes at once in two book design categories.

European Design Awards is one of the most important design events in Europe, appreciated by an independent jury consisting of design critics, design teachers and journalists from different countries. This year, only 1.9% of all submitted works have been received by the Golden Prize, making this success for a particularly significant recognition not only in Latvia but also in Europe.

Binde. 100-10 – Monumental Dedication to photographer Gunar Bindem

The Binde. 100-10, dedicated to Latvian photography classic Gunar Bindem, is considered to be a model for the synthesis of design and content. The structure, materials and typographic solutions of the book create both conceptually strong and tactile sophisticated experiences. From silver print on black paper to a glittering cover material – each element serves as a visual reference to Bindi as a « Master of Light ». The book has been published by the Gunar Binde Foundation, its compilers are Anna Binde, Alexei Murashko and Elisa Ramza.

« This is a work that at the same time honor the artist and becomes an art object in itself, » emphasizes one of the compilers Anna Binde.

Book Binde. 100-10 On May 31 this year, Haapsala has also won the Baltic Book Design Competition.

River Snow – Ancient China Lyrics in Modern Form

Book River snow, what has been issued by the publisher Neputn, Offers 21 works of the ancient Chinese poet in bilingual – Chinese and Ieva Lapiņš in Latvian. In the book design, Alexei Murashko has combined Eastern aesthetics with the principles of contemporary European books, using natural, recycled materials and special polygraphic solutions, including grape -pit paper and fine label label.

This edition has already received Laligaba this year and Golden Apple 2024 Prizes, but now the Gold Recognition European Design Awards certifies its high artistic and design quality internationally.

Both winning expenses were printed and bound at the Jelgava printing house.

Alexei Murashko is a Latvian designer who specializes in spending design, working in close collaboration with cultural institutions, artists and writers. His works are characterized by the synthesis of conceptual depth and material accuracy. His editions are increasingly receiving international awards and recognition, proving the high level of Latvian book design.

European Design Awards There is an annual prize that prizes the best communication design in Europe. The awards are awarded in a variety of categories, including expenditure design, graphic design, digital design and more. Every year, the ceremony takes place in another European city, and in 2025 its home is Ljubljana, Slovenia.
