The Causa around the Braunau tax office has now followed further consequences. As the « Standard » reported online on Thursday and confirmed in the finance department, two high -ranking officials from the Ministry of Finance have been suspended. The Economic and Corruption Prosecutor (WKStA) recently brought charges against ÖVP club chairman August Wöginger in this matter.
Wöginger is accused of intervening at the former head of the Cabinet of the Ministry of Finance, Thomas Schmid, for the appointment of an Upper Austrian ÖVP mayor to the board of the Finance for Braunau, Ried and Schärding. With him, two officers from the Ministry of Finance, who have now been suspended. « As employers, we initiated the intended service and disciplinary steps in this cause, » it said from the department.

The two officers were members of the personnel commission who had to decide on the management of the tax office in 2017. In the run -up to the session, Wöginger – according to the accusation – is said to have interfered over the top official Schmid at the time and had been strong for the candidate close to the ÖVP, who was ultimately also entrusted with the function. An inferior applicant had complained about this and got it before the Federal Administrative Court.
Wöginger is charged as a so -called determination offender for abuse of the authority. The WKStA accuses the two officials. Specifically, they are said to have worked as a chairman or as a member of the assessment commission, even though they were biased. They are said to have lined up a candidate from party political considerations, even though it was less suitable, according to the indictment.
