Two dozen inmates from the Monsanto jail are on hunger strike

Twenty-one inmates are on Tuesday on hunger strike in the chain of Monsanto.

The protest began on Monday and intends to demand better conditions in the prison establishment.

The information has already been confirmed by the Directorate-General for Reinsertion and Prison Services (DGRSP), which said a total of 30 detainees filled the hunger strike bulletin to the first meal on Monday, but nine uncovered in the meantime.

The DGRSP said that prisoners who are on hunger strike are being accompanied by clinical services and that, until the memento, none has any health problems.

At issue, there are “some of the rules that result from the regulation of the safety regime they are in”, prisoners also claim more activities and occupation, such as gym, outdoor sports with teacher, school, work activity and access to books that may request from the library.

They also protest the medical and drug assistance that is provided to them. About this, DGRSP indicates that Monsanto’s prison establishment has, for a universe of about 70 inmates, three doctors, two psychologists, a psychiatrist, a nutritionist, a pharmacist and eight nurses.
