The results of these Italian bad weather is increasing. Disappeared after the heavy rains that affect northern Italy, two people were found dead this Friday, April 18, according to the latest firefighters, bringing the number of victims to three. The bodies of a 64 -year -old man and his 33 -year -old son, whose car had been swept away by the flood of a torrent, were discovered precisely near Vicenza, in Veneto.

The president of the Venetian region, Luca Zaia, presented his « Condolences to the one who lost a husband and a son »deploring a « Unimaginable tragedy ». The two men died when they had volunteered and were on their way to contribute to rescue operations. On Thursday, a nonagenarian had already been found dead in his flooded house in the Piedmont (northwest).

Like the French and Swiss Alpsnorthern Italy was struck Thursday, April 17, by heavy rains which turned into snow in altitude, causing numerous road cuts due to landslides as well as floods. Dozens of people had to be evacuated, sometimes with their pets, of flooded areas. In the Val d’Aosta, around 5,000 families were deprived of current Thursday evening, according to the local manager of the electrical network.

Images of AFP show streets invaded by mud in Monteu da Po, in the Piedmont, the small locality where the firefighters found the deceased nonagenarian on Thursday. In other localities in this region, debris have covered the streets.

A month ago, the center of Italy had already been affected by bad weather. In Tuscany, dozens of people had been evacuated and soldiers had been deployed in Pisa to have sandbags as protective on the banks of the Arno river which crosses the city before throwing itself into the sea.

The neighboring region of Emilie-Romagne had also been affected by these bad weather, less serious, however, than those of May 2023 which had led to the death of 17 people and billions of euros in damage. Scientists have established that climate change caused by human activities increases the risk of natural disasters such as floods.
