Two different tale of ice princesses
The Olympic hope remains
M. Variakoytė entered the final at the World figure skating championship at the end of March and won a ticket to Lithuania to 2026. Milan and Cortino Winter Olympics. In the women’s program, Kaunas took 24th place (139.81 points). It is true that it will defend Lithuania’s honor next year in Italy, as the Olympic travel voucher is won to the country, not to the person. Although, of course, like all athletes, M. Variakojytė has the Olympic dream.
« When that dream can already become a reality? If this season is lucky and everything is fine, it is very realistic that I will participate in the upcoming Winter Olympics. But the criteria will probably be very high, so it’s hard to say who will actually go there, » says the young skater.
The athlete reveals that it is a good feeling when he is wearing a Lithuanian symbolism in international competitions: « You represent your country, which is a great honor. »
It is no secret that often you have to sacrifice something to achieve heights. As M. Variakojytė is still a schoolgirl in eleventh grade, the academic side of life suffers from a busy sports schedule.
« It is really difficult to combine sports with science. The training begins early and ends late, so there is very little time for the school, » says M. Variakojytė. She has been skating for about thirteen years, first on the ice at five. – about half a day, about 5 hours. But there is a routine, it needs to be supported, so you get to work and continue your work. ”

It doesn’t like to decorate with glitter
The fashion world is not very close to M. Variakoytė. She is not interested in trends and topical issues in this area. « Athletes usually wear sportswear, so maybe it’s not time.
When asked about Lithuanian fashion designers, M. Variakojytė admits that she knows little about them. « I rarely observe Lithuanian content on social networks. But I could mention designer Milda Grikšaitė. Her collections, stylistics and creativity I like, » adds the skater.
The outfit of the figure skating may be a little comparable to the clothes of sports dance. Of course, the latter’s dresses are particularly bright, with a variety of distinctive details – feathers, sequins, crystals. Similar elements can be seen on the ice, but according to M. Variakojytė, much less. It is especially moderately on her own sportswear.
Maybe it can be said that skates are like high heels, but I still say no to them. I say yes to sports shoes.
« When we are already creating a program for competitions, we talk to choreographers. They advise you on what outfit would be most appropriate, what would be the most beautiful, how things should look. Then we talk to the tailors.
The competition outfits are usually changed every season (or every other season). When changing the program, the outfit is also replaced. According to M. Variakojytė, each program has a separate dress, and there are two (short and free programs) during the competition.
« I prefer when the competition outfits are not very bright. Just all the bright things – not for me, it’s not my style. I prefer more neutral colors. There is really little glitter on my outfit, » says the athlete.

Hydaine uniforms
In everyday life, things glowing on the skater will certainly not be seen by anyone. In her spare time, the girl chooses training and sneakers. According to the athlete, this is her main uniform.
It is almost impossible to see M. Variakojytė on a regular day when wearing a dress. She doesn’t even have such clothes. Dresses are usually for the competition.
During the shows, the skates are dressed. According to M. Variakojytė, it is a sport where you need to look not only beautiful, but also stand out, to be at least brighter, because white ice alone.
But again, as with the outfit, when the arena door is closed, the skater is all about makeup. The competition and what is happening outside the competition are like two different lives.
The fascinating Japanese style
If you could choose any Lithuanian or foreign designer who creates an outfit for skaters, what of them would like Variakojytė most?
« I won’t tell a particular designer or fashion house. But it could be someone from the US or Japan. Dresses in these countries are the most beautiful, » says the skater.
Watching the competition from the country, the Lithuanian woman, of course, pays attention to the outfit of other skates: « For example, I look if the outfit matches the program. When everything goes well, the image is beautiful. »
When asked if there is a skater whose image (in the competition and beyond) is admired, M. Variakoytė does not distinguish between one athlete. But he turns back to the country of the rising sun.
« The Japanese style is unique, different from that of most, » she says. « I really like it.

Skates instead of high heels
Shopping is not a skater weakness or a favorite activity. She only moves into clothing stores when you really need something. Thus, the cabinet M. Variakoyytė’s home does not really break from the abundance of clothes.
When it comes to accessories, specifically handbags, M. Variakojytė prefers small, not those where half of life can be.
« Those big handbags are uncomfortable for me. After all, everyday life does not need to carry much, not like going to workouts. So it is usually enough to have a phone and a wallet, » says the skating shot.
There is no need to touch the footsteps of the earth, but you want to touch it in the competition, so there is no place for high heels in everyday life either.
« I don’t like high heels and I don’t even know how to walk with them. Obviously, it is possible to say that skates are like high heels, but I still say no. » « Yes » I say to sports shoes, « says M. Variakoytė, smiling.
