During the Fiertel, a pilgrimage around Ronse, three people were slightly injured on Sunday morning after a horse went wild. They were taken to the hospital for checking.
On Sunday, the Fiertelommegang pulls around Ronse. A few thousand Ronsenaars then literally walk around their city to enforce healing from their fool. Riders also ride every year. The organization asks that they are grouping themselves.
In the Ommangstraat, that is the border road between Maarkedal and Ronse, things went wrong in the morning. « Bite a horse on its own tongue, ragged and run wild, » says Mayor Ignace Michaux (CD&V Team Rose). « An adult and two children were touched by the animal. They were taken to the hospital. The rider was very impressed by the event. »
As a precaution to hospital
Because the accident happened on the territory of Maarkedal, the police of the Flemish Ardennes zone arrived. « I know confirm that there was an accident, » says Chief of Chief of Joost Duhamel. « The three people, an adult and two children were slightly injured, only a few scratches. They were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The rider took a negative breath test. »
The Fiertel was originally a detour that already took place in 1089. During the Middle Ages, pilgrims came from far and wide to Ronse to beg healing against mental illness at Sint-Hermes. To get healing, a day trip had to be taken to Ronse. Since this journey for the Ronsenaars, who themselves live in the shadow of St. Hermes Basilica, was not possible, a solution was sought. Every year, on the Sunday after Pentecost, the shrine with the relics of Sint-Hermes is worn in a protective circle of 32.6 kilometers around the city of Ronse, in order to retain its residents of evil.
