Two car fires in suspicious circumstances: Auto Vuur seizes after pursuit and driver flight with scooter when vehicle burns out (inland)
In one day, two cars were burned out in the Westhoek in suspicious circumstances. On Wednesday morning that happened at Poperinge after a chase, in the evening a car caught fire in Langemark and the driver fled.
Last Wednesday morning, a local resident noted a burning car just before 5 o’clock on the Abelestationplein in the Poperingse district Abele, near the border with France. It was a Senseinde French Audi RS3, which turned out to be stolen in Luxembourg and was chased from France. The police used a nail mat, but the vehicle continued to ride a long way on the rims. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of West Flanders, nobody was found on the spot anymore. The vehicle was towed for further investigation and the road surface must be restored locally.

Fire brigade Westhoek, on Wednesday evening around 10.30 pm, received a call for a vehicle fire in the Langemark countryside. It was a Belgian Ford Focus that caught fire in the Beekstraat, near the intersection with Groen- en Pottestraat. According to residents, the car ended up in their driveway, but the burning vehicle was pushed to a safer environment towards a field nearby. The driver took another scooter from the car and fled.

This vehicle also burned out and an investigation is being conducted into the precise circumstances. Oil was found in the neighborhood on the road surface in the Groenestraat. « The circumstances are still unclear, » said Glenn Verdru, spokesperson for police zone Arro Ypres Thursday morning.
« I was informed by the police, » responds Lieven Vanbelleghem, mayor of Langemark-Poelkapelle (respect). « Because no people were present, the appearance becomes a suspicious incident and it is further investigated. »
