Two bridges in Russia, there are dead, investigators lead them as « terrorist acts »
An explosion caused a crash on a railway when a train was traveling to western Russia, killing several people, investigating authorities said. A local governor said at least seven people were killed. In a separate incident in a neighboring region, the explosion caused another rail bridge to be demolished while a freight train passed through it, injuring at least one of the drivers, the local governor said.
Russian investigators have said the demolition of two bridges near the border with Ukraine has been caused by « terrorist acts », Russian media reported, DPA reports.
Separate incidents in which at least 70 people were injured led to the trains overnight to get out of the rails after two bridges crashed into the border regions of Brijansk and Kursk.
« The incidents are classified as terrorist acts, » said Svetlana Petrenko, a spokeswoman for the Investigating Committee.
Kurish region Governor Alexander Finstein said « one person was injured in the Kursk incident. »
In Brijansk, seven people were killed and about 70 injured, including three children, Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported.
Bogomaz also confirmed reports of the bridge explosion.
The Kremlin says Russian President Vladimir Putin has already had a telephone conversation with the head of the Russian Railways and the Governor of Brijansk, Bogomaz after receiving reports on incidents overnight.
