Two alarms sirens / day did not work for the test

Two sirens were not tested because they are moved, repaired or restored. In total, 164 alarm sirens have been installed in Latvia.

Of the 55 sirens in Riga and Riga region, 54 sirens worked without disruption. 28 of the 29 sirens were tested in Kurzeme. 27 sirens worked without interruption. The siren in Valdemarpils did not work, but the alarm siren was not tested in Sabile.

22 of the 23 sirens were tested in Zemgale, and 22 of the alarm siren in one Tukums were not tested without interference.

In Latgale, all 29 devices were tested in Latgale, all of which worked without interference. All of the 28 sirens were tested in Vidzeme, all of which worked without interference.

The State Fire and Rescue Service informed the Information Center of the Ministry of the Interior, which technically ensures maintenance and maintenance of alarm sirens, of all disruptions found during the inspection.

The task of an alarm sirens is to warn the population in the event of a natural or technogenic disaster or its threat. There are currently 164 alarm sirens in the country and are not heard throughout the country. It is important that other ways of notifying will be used in emergency cases, such as transfer of information through speakers and operational service vehicle sound systems, walking around the housing, placing a statement in the « 112 Latvia » app.

In addition to the existing alarm siren system, Latvia is actively working on the introduction of cell broadcasting technology. This solution will allow citizens to receive targeted early warning notifications on their mobile phones in a given geographical area, whether the device is connected to the Internet or for a specific operator.

The introduction of cellular broadcasting technology in Latvia is planned this year.

In cases where residents are not warned in advance of the siren check when hearing an alarm siren signal, you need to turn on the TV or radio or other devices, such as mobile phone radios and Latvian public media, information on the reason for them and the necessary action.

The SFRS performs an alarm siren test every six months.
