TV review Rob Goossens knows why things went wrong between Bjorn and Marcella

« It feels a bit like a pack of cigarettes with those very terrible cancer lungs on it, » said Rob Goossens. He seemed very proud of that comparison. Now Rob Goossens often seems proud of the texts that roll out of his mouth to the RTL Boulevard-Desk (Good for Him), but on Thursday evening he was so happy with his find that he emphatically repeated him after half a minute, perhaps hoping for a little more recognition. Or on a cool head in the Mediacourant The next morning: « Very: MAFS couple Bjorn and Marcella reminds Rob Goossens of » terrible cancer lungs. « 

‘Maf’, that stands for Married at first sightof which the tenth season came to an end this week. On Thursday evening the last episode was broadcast on RTL 4 and the viewer finally knew how many of the participating couples were still together, after they met each other at the altar at the start of the season. The score: two of the seven marriages had made it. The marriage of Bjorn and Marcella was not there. Goossens didn’t surprise that. On the screen behind the media reporter, the wedding photos of the two young people in their thirties appeared: hand in hand, broad smile on their face, still in good spirits that their yes would be rightly. Then they could not know that those photos would be accompanied by the little romantic word ‘cancer lungs’ months later RTL Boulevard.

« It seems as if they have put Bjorn and Marcella as: this is how things are going if you do not communicate, » Goossens explained his comparison. He thought that the love experts who were involved in the dating program should have made the couple better adjustments. « They could have said much earlier: guys, go and communicate a bit. » The two Boulevard-Presenters who were sitting next to him at the Desk looked thoughtfully. « A warning in advance, you would like to have had, » said Vivienne van den Assem. Luuk Ikink supplemented: « And for the next season, that there might come. » « And maybe for us as viewers too, » said Goossens. Secretly the latter is of course the most important. Very nice if the participants in dating shows actually find love, but what the makers ultimately need the most, are viewers. Viewers like Rob Goossens, who sees and thinks such a program: but what do I learn from this. And in this case the answer was simple. Communicate.

Magic word

That magic word frequently comes along in dating programs, especially within the subcategory in which relationship experts play a role. They then encourage the participants to express themselves, to share their feelings. And if love does not blossom and viewers are looking for a reason for that miserable lack of a good outcome, it is easily found: not well communicated. If only you had pronounced! I personally doubt that that had helped in the case of Bjorn and Marcella, or of the other couples who had no ‘long and happy’. Poor Marcella confessed the experts early that the warm feelings were not for her. Then you can communicate until you weigh an ounce – that will not compensate for the lack of attraction. But that it is also a possibility that you will be blindly linked to someone you simply cannot fall in love, probably gives less satisfaction to the viewers at home. They must be able to learn when the Soggy-In the final interview, the participants hand in their wedding rings at presenter Carlo Boszhard, with a dramatic music in the background.
