TV review Item about bicycle helmet was mandatory, but ten Dutch celebrities on a nail bed, that is TV
It remained a big dilemma. Look: the advantage of a bicycle helmet is that you die less easily in traffic. But the after part of a bicycle helmet – how will I explain it? Journalist Tom Staal made an attempt Good morning Netherlands (WNL). He fluttered with his arms to presenter Welmoed Sijtsma and said: « If you, as a blonde woman … in the spring … With your spring dress … » His arms had now arched almost everywhere, just like Tom Staal’s arms always seem to do. Up, down; Before, back. You sometimes almost forget to listen to what he is trying to tell. But it was about the hypothetical scenario in which Sijtsma cycled somewhere in a spring dress. « Then those blonde hair must wash, right? » « Yes, » Sijtsma sighed. « But if I go down, I also want another head. » « Well, » Staal did. « That is again true. » Dilemmas, dilemmas.
On Wednesday, the government launched the campaign ‘Set’ M Op ‘, which must encourage cyclists to wear a helmet. Trauma surgeons happy, opinion makers stimulated. In the evening the arms of Staal fluttered again; now on SBS6 behind the desk of News of the day (A direct connection seems to have started between WNL and Talpa). The bicycle helmet item was redoed there. Presenter Thomas van Groningen and his guests each received such a helmet, although nobody put it on the spot. One half did not want and the other half had too big a head. « Again a patron campaign from the government, » Van Groningen had introduced the subject: « We all have to set up a bicycle helmet. » Furthermore, one went Telegraph-Columnist explain how the name change of the Amstelveen Michiel de Ruyter School was an attack on Dutch culture, said Van Groningen, whose tone tends more and more towards that of Unheard news-presenter Tom de Nooijer. Perhaps that permanent state of displeasure is contagious.
Colossal squid
Then it is nice that there is always a program somewhere in which Dutch people learn to make the big one again small; the negative positive. Personal development is completely hot. But because you can’t just put a Dutch celebrity on a sofa and then call it TV, creative therapeutic formats must be developed. Take the Videoland series for example Shaolin Heroesof which a new episode is put online every Wednesday. In the program, ten Dutch celebrities are trained for nine days in Kungfu and get some Buddhist wisdom in between. Participants are not here on a sofa, but on a nail bed. That is TV.
In last Wednesday’s episode, the Dutch celebrities were handed out through wooden boards among the physical challenges. They were then allowed to write things that they wanted to leave behind. Great fears and pain points were noted. « I’m looking for a word for that little voice in your head that says negative things about yourself, » said Kim-Lian van der Meij. She sat on her bed in the training center, there was a meditative music. A few meters away, Tooske Ragas lay on her back on an identical bed. With closed eyes, she suggested: « If you call it » that negative voice « …? »
After this I longed for something really big. Greater than the heads of opinion makers and the concerns of Dutch celebrities. Large enough to put all that in perspective. So I was pleasantly surprised when the NOS reported that for the first time a colossal squid, an animal that can be an estimated 12 to 14 meters long, was filmed in the wild. Only the squid in question just got out of his egg. That did not make the discovery in a figurative sense less, but when I see the images I couldn’t suppress a little disappointment. Unfortunately: the kollosal squid was thirty centimeters small.
