Due to the 36th anniversary of the start of the two -communal political party meetings held under the auspices of Slovak Embassy, a ceremony was held in front of the Peace Monument around the Ledra Palace Hotel with meetings.

In his speech, Rastislav Chovanec recalled that the first meeting under the auspices of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot political parties was in Prague on May 16, 1989.
Stating that over 450 meetings have been held so far, Chovanec said that their only aim is to help the two communities converge.
Stating that 18 political parties from the TRNC and Southern Cyprus participated in the two -communal dialogue meetings under the auspices of Slovak Embassy, Chovanec pointed out that the meetings were held within the framework of Chatman House rules
Chovanec is the only direct communication tool of these meetings, political parties in the two parts and a long -term confidence -enhancing activity; He said that it is important for discussing issues concerning two societies and everyday life of individuals and helping a EU member country without any expectation.
Stating that the window of finding solutions to the Cyprus problem was once again opened, Chovanec wished that Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders would show political courage.
“I hope that the leaders will show the political courage, goodwill and statesmanship necessary to find a permanent, acceptable and fair solution under the UN auspices of the Cyprus problem, Chova said Chovanec.
Stating that all Cypriots deserve a solution, Chovavanc said, “Slovakia, which has held a two -communal political party meeting for nearly 40 years, has shown that it has not a secret agenda.”
Chovanec said that Slovakia is ready to maintain these studies as long as political parties demand.
Noting that alternative options are worse than the dialogue and communication option, Chovanec completed his speech with the words, « If you’re not on the table, you’re probably on the menu ».
