Turkey. Authorities are asking for blocking over 700 accounts on x
The Turkish authorities, faced with a wave of protests triggered by the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu, have asked the social network X to close over 700 opponents’ accounts, the platform announced, AFP reports.
« We oppose the multiple decisions of the Turkish authority for information and communication technology that requires the blocking of over 700 accounts that belong to press bodies, journalists, political personalities, students and other people in Turkey, » wrote on Sunday evening the communication team of the social network.
The mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu, accused of ‘corruption’, was incarcerated on Sunday at the Marmara prison, also known as the Silivri Prison, on the outskirts of Istanbul, his Party of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) announced.
The arrest of Mayor Imamoglu, Wednesday, under accusations of corruption and supporting terrorism has triggered extensive protests in the country.
On Sunday, the Turkish Ministry of Interior announced on the X network that 323 people were detained following Saturday protests.
Retounds took place in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and in other cities, attended by thousands of people, despite the prohibition of meetings.
