- Former Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov;
- gambling boss Vasil Bozhkov;
- Ilko Zhelyazkov, known as the Dogan Lieutenant;
- Nikolay Malinov from the National Movement « Russophiles »;
- Former bosses of Kozloduy NPP Alexander Nikolov and Ivan Genov;
- Former Energy Minister Rumen Ovcharov.
None of them has been convicted in Bulgaria for corruption behavior, found and described in the reasons for imposing sanctions by Washington (under the reign of President Joe Biden).
Now Borisov openly spoke of « forgiveness », in tune with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, known as one of the few European leaders close to US President Donald Trump.

The process is not underway. Peevski is known to have hired law firms and lobbyists to do his best to get out of the list and operate his assets. Also Goranov, who, after some hiding from publicity, is already an honor commentator on various topics in the mainstream media.
From « Magnitsky » to banks – can Trump cancel the sanctions against Russia himself
Sanctions hit their money and business opportunities, as access to the global financial system is almost impossible. Even if they use offshore companies or trust funds, they also fall under sanctions, as long as they are found to be under the control of persons on the « Magnitsky » list or act on their behalf. All their assets in the US or under the control of US persons (including banks) are frozen and they cannot dispose of them – to transfer, sell or use them in any way.
US citizens, companies and financial institutions have no right to enter into financial or commercial relations with the sanctioned « magnets » or with related companies. Any attempts to circumvent sanctions – through intermediaries or concealed structures – are also subject to punishment.
Many international banks and companies, including outside the United States, avoid doing business with sanctioned persons for fear of violating US law or falling under secondary sanctions.
Renaissance for kleptocratic systems
Here, from a tool to combat corruption and to name it, the Magnitsky Act becomes a coin and a tool that strengthens the power of the sanctioned.

The US Department of Finance Finance Control Office (OFAC) has the power to add or remove persons from the list of sanctioned. But the political decision to impose or raise sanctions always comes from the highest level – from the president.
Recent sanctions on Hungarian politician Antal Rogan, close to Victor Orban and head of his cabinet, are undoubtedly the visible part of a much wider behind-the-scenes deal between Washington and Budapest. When Biden’s administration puts him on the black list, he described him as a key figure in the « kleptocratic ecosystem » that undermines democratic institutions in Hungary. The US Department of Finance has accused Rogan of using his official position to enrich himself and his political allies by directing public procurement to close businessmen.

He (Delyan Peevski – BA) is not sanctioned for corruption. It will be time for him and Goranov to come out the truth, as well as for Hungary. Does he not look at Peevski and MRF – a new beginning as a long -term partner? Peevski’s accustomed to power began to become a fact that all stories about his omnipotence and influence in every sphere – the judicial system, the security services, the construction, the sport, began to be used. It looks like the uncomfortable Bulgarian Orban.
