TU Eindhoven freezes collaboration with Israeli University, investigates others
TU Eindhoven freezes the collaboration with the Israeli Technical University Technion. Before July 15, the educational institution will also appoint an expert committee to assess other ‘sensitive collaborations’, starting with collaborations with Israeli institutions. That is what the board has Monday announced.
In the meantime, the university does not enter into new collaborations with Israeli institutions because of ‘the humanitarian catastrophe’ in Gaza. The measures do not apply to collaborations with individual researchers. However, the board calls on it to be ‘extra careful’.
According to the board, the University Technion has ‘unmistakably strong ties’ with the Israeli defense sector, as a result of which cooperation can no longer be justified. Previously, the University of Amsterdam, Radboud University in Nijmegen, Tilburg University and Erasmus University Rotterdam took similar measures.
According to TU Eindhoven, the collaboration with Israeli partners is « always aimed at making the world better ». But some projects can be like ‘dual use‘ are considered, which means that they could be used for both civil and military purposes.
