« Trump’s, unjustified fees, » Spain, Switzerland and Norway react: They are harmful!

American tariffs announced by Donald Trump are causing strong reactions in many countries around the world.

Spain, Switzerland and Norway are some of the countries that have responded to US tariffs, saying they are harmful and unjustified.

The main business lobby of Switzerland, a country on which 31%tariffs were set, rejected the movements of the US president, while the country’s government emphasized the importance of respecting international law.

The Economiesuisse Business Lobby said there were no valuable reasons for US tariffs, noting that Switzerland has lifted industrial tariffs since the beginning of 2024 and already has lower US import tariffs.

« Today’s escalation in commercial policy is a serious burden on the Swiss export industry, » Economiesuis said, calling the tariffs « harmful and unjustified ».

Donald Trump’s goal is to reduce the US trade deficit, while Switzerland has a considerable surplus. According to the Swiss business lobby, if services are included, trade between the two countries is almost balanced.

The organization also noted that pharmaceutical products are not affected by the April 2 Trump executive order. Chemicals and pharmaceuticals made up more than half of Swiss exports to the US in 2024, according to Swiss government data.

Norway requires negotiations with the US

Norway, whose products have been hit at 15%tariffs, will seek to negotiate with the United States, the Norwegian Prime Minister said today.

« It’s bad news, it’s very serious, » Jonas Stere’s said, adding that there is an opening for negotiations.

Norway, who is not a member of the European Union, has said he would press European officials to prevent politics to prevent what he called the worst scenario in which Norwegian exports to Europe would be adversely affected by an EU response to US tariffs. Stere said he would run a delegation in Brussels on Monday to meet with European Commission President Ursula von Leyen and other officials.

Spain requires measures to protect businesses and consumers

Spanish Minister of Economy Carlos Cuerpo on Tuesday that the country’s government is ready to take measures to protect Spanish companies and consumers from the effects of new tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump.

The new tariffs are « unfair and unjustified, » he said.

The EU wants to negotiate to avoid a trade war, although it should take revenge if there is no room for negotiations, Cuerpo said.
