Trump’s statements have annoyed Moscow

Russia said Thursday that threats with military strokes against Iran’s ally are unacceptable, and warned that attacking the Islamic Republic could have catastrophic results if bombed nuclear installations, Reuters reports.

US President Donald Trump threatened Iran with secondary bombings and rates on Sunday if he does not reach an agreement with Washington on his nuclear program. The United States also transferred additional military aircraft to the region.

Asked about the Iranian nuclear program and the dangers of the current situation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow is committed to finding solutions for a nuclear program that respects the right of Tehran to peaceful nuclear energy.

« The use of military force by the opponents of Iran (…) is illegal and unacceptable, » said the spokesman for Russian diplomacy, Maria Zaharova.

‘The external threats of bombardment of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure installations will inevitably lead to an irreversible global catastrophe. These threats are simply unacceptable, « she added.

Western powers, in front of the US, accuse Iran of having a secret agenda of developing nuclear weapons by enriching uranium at a high level of purity, over what Westerners say it is justifiable for an atomic energy program.

The Tehran states that his nuclear program has exclusively civil purposes.

In 2015, Iran concluded an agreement with the permanent members of the UN Security Council (China, Russia, USA, France, the United Kingdom) and with Germany, agreeing which strictly limit the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for lifting international sanctions.

However, in 2018, in his first term, Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the US agreement and re -imprisoned drastic US sanctions.

Russia and Iran signed in January a ‘comprehensive strategic partnership agreement’, but without mutual defense clause. According to the agreement, if one of the parties is attacked, the other party will not help the aggressor.

Russia condemns American threats, said Foreign Deputy Minister Sergei Riabkov for Life magazine, warning that an attack on Iran could trigger a larger open conflict in the Middle East.

« Its consequences, especially if the nuclear infrastructure were hit, could be catastrophic for the whole region, » Riabkov said.
