Trump’s actions against Harvard attract donations
US President Donald Trump, like many in his closest advisory circle and ministry, has trained at noble universities, but nevertheless built a justifiable part of his opinion on a disdain for the elite. Unlike other educational institutions, Harvard has chosen not to fully hearing the White House’s requirements for measures against anti -war demonstrators in its campus areas – hence the stand war.
Blogger Samuel Graham-Felsenwho studied Harvard himself and worked for Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign in 2008, tells the New York Times that he himself never donated any money to his Alma Mater. Not least considering that Harvard’s estimated $ 53 billion large fund makes it the world’s richest university, but the last week’s event development has made him change.
– The more Trump punishes Harvard financially, the more I will donate. And I’m not a rich guy, says Samuel Graham-Felsen to New York Times and clarifies that he donated $ 108 as a numerically symbolic reference to his own Jewish origin.
He says he has several friends who also donated sums to Harvard this past week, but Harvard has not published how many or how much you have received. It should be mentioned that there are reasons to believe that there are otherwise others who have chosen not to donate in protest against Harvard or sympathy for the White House.
The current conflict Can be said to have begun on January 30 with Trump’s presidential order to « take powerful and never previously seen measures to gather all federal resources to fight the explosion of anti -Semitism on our campus ». One designed university after another has both been punished and given way in various ways, including Harvard, but on Monday the university announced that they do not intend to change their policies.
« No government- regardless of which party is in power- should dictate what private universities are taught, who they are allowed to adopt or employ and what study and research areas they are allowed to do, » wrote Harvard’s principal Alan Garber who also has a Jewish background and has expressed criticism of the demonstrations. He, on the other hand, believes that the administration’s way of solving it goes beyond the power of the federal government.
Garber’s statement was a response to a letter that the White House sent last week, but according to New York Times May that letter have been sent by mistake. Some sources within the administration tell the newspaper that the letter would not have been sent at all, while others claim that it was intended to be posted only if negotiations between the parties did not lead to an agreement.
