Trump would have suggested to Orban for Hungary to get out of the EU
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban assured on Friday that he has no intention to get his country out of the EU, but wants to turn the latter with other conservative politicians to be again.
The statement comes after Polish Liberal Prime Minister Donald Tusk claimed that the head of the Budapest government would like the exit of Hungary from the EU, especially after an statement in which Orban confessed that he received encouragement from the US President Donald Trump, reports EFE.
‘Dear Donald (Tusk). Don’t make too much illusions. Hungary will not get out of the EU. But we will transform it with the ‘patriots for Europe’ so that it was again when it was when Poland and Hungary joined them, Orban wrote on the X. ‘Patriots for Europe’ is a new sovereign political group that the Hungarian prime minister has impulsed in the European Parliament.
Orban thus responded to a message in which Tusk, a powerful pro-EU politician and former president of the European Council, stated that the Hungarian prime minister is talking openly about leaving the European Union ‘.
In his reply, Viktor Orban added that when Hungary and Poland joined the EU, in 2004, ‘bureaucrats in Brussels served the people, not themselves’, and ‘did not mix in the internal political debates of the Member States’.
The Hungarian prime minister said on Wednesday, in a speech at a forum in Pilisvörösvár, that US President Donald Trump asked when he will withdraw Hungary from the EU, a question to which Orban said: ‘Mr. President, we need a good offer.’
Orban also claimed that Trump regularly asks this question in telephone discussions, and he always gives him the same answer, namely that Hungary will leave the EU when it will be more advantageous for it to be outside the Community block, especially considering that 85% of Hungary’s exports go to the EU states.
Viktor Orban is in permanent conflict with the European Commission, which accuses him of violating the rule of law by limiting the rights of the LGBT community, rejecting illegal migrants, controlling the press, justice and public procurement or challenging the priority of the EU Court of Justice (CJUE) on the national law, to the RUS, which is added to the RUS Vladimir Putin.
For all this, the European Commission has blocked the National Plan for Redress and Resility (PNRR), by which this country has the right to grants worth 5.8 billion euros from the European Post-Pandemic recovery plan.
Moreover, Brussels activated against Budapest in December 2022 the new conditionality mechanism that allows the European Commission to suspend European funds to those member countries, which they consider to violate the rule of law, thus suspending about 23 billion euros from Hungary’s cohesion. From these cohesion funds were unlocked by the European Commission only about a third at the end of 2023, when Hungary threatened to block the EU aid for Ukraine in the War with Russia.
Meanwhile, Hungary has succeeded ‘following harsh political battles’ unlocking about 13 billion euros in these funds, said Orban on Friday, who promised that he would continue to ‘fight’ with Brussels so that Hungary could also access about 10 billion euros.
‘Of course, Brussels tells us that if we let the migrants come in, if we give up the protection of children (in front of LGBT actions), if we change our position in pro-pace, then we will have easy access to this money. But I say ‘no’ to this price. We better fight, « Orban insisted, according to the MTI agency.
