Trump wants to burn more coal – and tells falsehoods about Germany – Diepresse.com

Trump pushes a return of the coal. He wrongly mentions Germany as a prime example: « All over Germany, coal -fired power plants are put into operation. »

US President Donald Trump has initiated a coal revival for his country. He signed a decree to strongly promote the coal as an energy source. Ministeries and the authorities are instructed to remove all measures that the country are dissolving from coal mining. Restrictions on dismantling and export are to be loosened and older power plants are to be operated further. Trump had always raved about the beautiful clean coal in the election campaign.

During a ceremony in the White House, Trump announced in front of miners with protective helmets that he would prove the federal authorities to loosen the restrictions. Trump emphasized that the energy was used for AI counting centers, for example. The data centers for artificial intelligence need a lot of energy for their operation.

Trump raves about German coal -fired power plants

At the beginning of his speech, Trump once again referred to Germany, where new coal -fired power plants were supposedly put into operation everywhere, although this has not been done for years. Germany has had long green politics. « They have become so green that they almost spit, » said Trump. « Germany was in the end. » Then Germany switched to wind. « The wind didn’t blow very hard. » And then the country tried all kinds of other things, Trump continued without proving it. Now Germany is back with coal, the president claimed. « Coal -fired power plants are put into operation all over Germany. » And the United States has not yet done it.

Last coal -fired power plant in Germany in 2020 into operation

Already the day before, Trump claimed at a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House that a coal -fired power plant would be put into operation every week. But that’s not true: According to the Federal Network Agency, the last coal -fired power plant 2020 in Datteln was completed. The coal phase -out for 2038 is also agreed in Germany. The traffic light coalition had planned to prefer the date « ideally » to 2030.

Coal burning is considered the most climate -damaging type of energy generation. At the UN Climate Conference in Dubai 2023, the global community had agreed for the first time after decades of discussion to depart coal, oil and gas. In November 2024, the then US President Joe Biden still hoped at the end of the climate conference in Baku: « Some may also try to deny or delay the clean energies ongoing in the United States and worldwide revolution: Nobody can reverse them-nobody. » (APA/dpa)
