Trump speaks of Greenland annexation in front of NATO chief
US President Donald Trump estimated on Thursday that the annexation of the Danish autonomous territory Greenland by the United States will eventually happen, which would favor, according to 'international security', AFP reports.
« I think it will happen, » said the US president at the White House, along with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. « We need for international security, » Trump added.
« We have our ordinary thieves who are wandering near the coast and we have to be careful, we will talk about it, » he continued, an apparent reference to Russia and China.
« I do not want to involve NATO in this, » Mark Rutte replied, but recognizing that « in terms of Arctic and Great North, you are perfectly right. »
'The Chinese are now using these routes. We know that the Russians are re -enacted. (…) It is therefore very important that the seven countries in Arctic, outside Russia, work together in this file under the aegis of the United States to guarantee the security of this region, « added NATO Secretary General.
The center-right opposition won the legislative elections in Greenland on Tuesday, followed by independent nationalists, a vote marked by statements made by Donald Trump who expressed, on several occasions, the desire to annex the Arctic Island.
Greenland is now seeking to form a coalition capable of determining the path to independence to counteract Donald Trump's aspirations.
