US President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of 2,000 members of the National Guard in Los Angeles and California for fierce clashes between protesters and immigration authorities.

Clashes followed protests against mass arrests of illegal migrants. « The president has signed a memorandum that ensures security from anarchy that others allowed to expand, » White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said.

According to the Ministry of Interior Security, about 1,000 protesters attacked immigration agents on Friday. Several people have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting federal officials.

The White House statement said the operations of the immigration services were « critical of stopping the invasion of criminals without documents ».

« California’s incompetent democratic leaders have given up responsibility to protect their citizens, » the statement added.

Defense Minister Pete Heget said the army was ready to send marines from the Kemp Pendelton base if the violence continues.

California Governor Gavin Yusom, who has been often criticized by Trump, has estimated that sending an army is « fire oil. »

In Paramount, a suburb of dominant Spanish population, protesters and agents clashed again. Several have been arrested, and the American flag was set on fire.

Protesters attacked police vehicles and threw objects while authorities used tear gas and shock bombs.
