President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a 50 -minute telephone conversation on Saturday to discuss the escalating situation between Israel and Iran and the peace talks about Ukraine, the White House and the Kremlin have confirmed.

Putin’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Yuri Usakov, said that during the conversation, Putin informed Mr Trump about his recent talks with Iran and Israel’s leaders and reiterated Russia’s proposal to seek reciprocal solutions.

« The dangerous escalation of the situation in the Middle East was of course at the heart of the exchange of views, » Usakov told reporters after a conversation between the two leaders.

« Vladimir Putin, after condemning the military operation against Iran, expressed serious concern about the possible escalation of the conflict, » he said, warning « unpredictable consequences for the whole situation in the Middle East. »

According to Usakov, Putin also stressed Russia’s readiness to make possible mediation efforts and noted that Russia had proposed steps « aiming to find reciprocal acceptable agreements » during the US-Iranian negotiations for the Iranian program.

« The approach of the authorities and Russia’s interest in settlement remain unchanged, » Usakov said. Mr Trump described the regional situation as « very worrying, » Usakov said, but acknowledged the « effectiveness » of Israel’s strikes on targets in Iran.

Leaders did not rule out a return to negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, according to Usakov.
