Trump pushes Africa into coal, oil and gas – diepresse.com
No electricity, no prosperity. This simple calculation is a bitter reality for almost 600 million people in Africa. The West promised redemption through more electricity thanks to the sun, wind and water. Then Donald Trump came.
Basically, everyone agrees: Without access to more energy, Africa will never be able to grow seriously. In a continent on which almost 600 million people live without access to electrical electricity and are the order of the day for the other blackouts, not only students lack the light to learn and doctors for operating, no companies and jobs can occur. And that would be bitter, says Axel van Trotsenburg, Senior Managing Director of the World bankto the « Press on Sunday »: « In developing countries, 1.2 billion young people will be pushing for the labor market in the next ten years, but only around 420 million new jobs will be created. » The biggest gap will open in Africa, where the population will almost double to 2.5 billion people by 2050.
The lack of energy « is the most important growth of growth in Africa, » says Fatih Birol, head of the International energy agency. But the question is, where does Africa get this energy from – and who deserves it?
