« Trump Mobile »: Presidential sons present cell phone offerings
The family of US President Donald Trump gets into the mobile market with their name. Soon « Trump Mobile » will be sold to a smartphone with « T1 », the president sons Donald Trump said Jr. and Eric Trump. According to the press release, the main responsibility is not the Trump organization you conduct, but a company called T1 Mobile LLC, which uses the name « Trump » based on a license agreement.
The monthly tariff (« The 47 Plan ») should therefore amount to $ 47.45 (around 41 euros) – probably a reference to Donald Trump as 47th and 45th President of the United States. The smartphone should cost $ 499 and is kept in a color typical of the family: gold.
The project was presented publicly in the Trump Tower in New York: Ten years after Trump had announced his ambitions to the presidency. The announcement marks a further advance of the Trump family into the technology and media market.
Ethical concerns
Critics accuse the President of mixing his office with business interests. The close interlinking of the Trump organization with the political activities of the Republican stirs up ethical concerns.
Originally native to the real estate industry, the Trump family is increasingly entering the technology sector, for example with the social media platform Truth Social, which the American president prefers to communicate. Shortly before taking office, Trump also had his own cryptocurrency called « $ Trump ». In the election campaign, he had been open to digital currencies – and received considerable support from the crypto industry.
The entry into the mobile phone business takes place at a time when Trump’s government is in customs negotiations with China – with a view to export controls and supply chains for semiconductor and other key technologies that are essential for the production of smartphones. In speeches, the president repeatedly emphasizes that products would have to be manufactured again in the United States. This is exactly what his sons now advertise for their smartphone.
