Trump: I think I have an agreement with Putin and with Greenski to solve the war in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump has said he believes he has a peace deal with Russia and Ukraine.
The president said the agreement with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski is « hanging in the air », but said the agreement was close.
« I think Russia is ready and many people have said that Russia wants to do the whole thing. » And I think we have an agreement with Russia. We have to reach an agreement with Zelenski – Trump told reporters in the oval room.
-I thought it might be easier to deal with Zelenski. So far it has been harder … But I think we have a deal with the two. I hope they do it – Trump said.
Asked about the US proposal presented to Ukraine, according to which Crimea will be recognized as de jure Russian territory, Trump has not directly addressed the issue, stressing that « there are no favorites » between Ukraine and Russia and that it only wants the war to end.
The US president said he could soon meet with Putin after traveling to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Asked if he could meet Putin in Saudi Arabia, Trump said it was possible, but unlikely.
Trump said last night that the statement by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski that Kiev could not recognize the secession of Crimea is « very harmful to peace talks with Russia ».
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski boasts of the Wall Street Journal that « Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea. There is nothing to talk about, » Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.
According to him, that statement is very harmful to peace talks with Russia, given that Crimea « has been lost a few years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama » and is not a topic to talk.
