Trump hinted at a two -week ultimatum for Putin
US President Donald Trump said he is not yet ready to impose new sanctions on Russia because of continuing attacks in Ukraine, so as not to thwart attempts at a peace agreement. The day after the warning that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is playing with the fire, however, Trump hinted at an ultimatum that can be imposed for up to two weeks.
Asked if the Russian leader may deliberately slow down the negotiations, Trump replied: « We will find out if he is bringing us or not, and if so, we will react a little differently. »

Russia has not yet given a memorandum
Putin’s requirements for termination of war include a written promise from Western leaders that NATO will not expand east to former Soviet republics such as Ukraine and Georgia, and the cancellation of some sanctions on Russia, according to Russian sources of Reuters, familiar with the negotiations.

Putin’s assistant foreign policy, Yuri Ushakov, told a state television reporter that Trump’s remark suggests that he is not well aware of the realities of the war. He also told Rosia-1 TV that Trump may not be aware of « the increasingly common mass terrorist attacks that Ukraine is against peaceful citizens. »
On Sunday, after Russia’s most powerful blow against Ukraine since the beginning of the war, Trump said Putin was « completely detached ».
Despite these comments by Trump, the US administration has not made clear demands for discounts from Russia. However, the sanctions imposed during previous President Joe Biden remain in force.
